About Crocus

Crocus is a charming and resilient perennial plant known for its vibrant, cup-shaped blooms that signal the arrival of spring. These delicate flowers, belonging to the Iris family, burst forth from the ground often before the last traces of winter have vanished, making them one of the earliest bloomers in many gardens. Crocuses come in a variety of colors, including purple, yellow, white, and striped variations, adding a much-needed splash of color to early spring landscapes.

They are typically planted in the fall and require well-drained soil and full to partial sunlight to thrive. Beyond their beauty, crocuses are also valued for their role in producing saffron—the spice derived from the stigmas of the Crocus sativus species. The process of harvesting saffron is labor-intensive, making it one of the most expensive spices in the world. With their cheerful appearance and unique culinary significance, crocuses hold a special place in both gardens and kitchens worldwide.

I hate flowers – I paint them because they’re cheaper than models and they don’t move.
